Since Season 1 the "kicked from server" message only appears for an actual ban, and bans are announced in the server when match termination is off.
Dropped to the main menu mid-match with "Returning to main screen"? That was the launch join bug fixed by Hotfix #1, not a ban. Restart the client. On community servers, admins can also remove players themselves.
