The L81 needs the Large Hammer: Support 8 and a $75,000 [S1] blueprint since Season 1, so it is not a first-hour tool. It sits on page three of the build menu, on the left. Placing it takes 91 building supplies, and every shell uses 30 ammo supplies delivered to its FOB. The L81 mortar

1. Middle-click the target on screen. A white diamond appears. Do it right before you aim: it expires.
2. Get on the mortar. The diamond shows on the compass too.
3. Swing with the keyboard for speed until the diamond is centred left to right. Height does not matter.
4. Use the mouse for the last one or two clicks.

The range scale has coarse ticks, so a correct calculation can still land about 50 yards off. Fire one round, watch where it lands, and adjust before you commit more. Range: the coordinate math, worked out

Press R twice more to hold three rounds. Fire, press C to skip the shell camera, nudge your aim, fire again. Only do this after the ranging shot, or you waste all three. Rate of fire: preload, C-cancel, and reloading in the kill cam

1. Never build anything in front of the mortar. Your own round hits it and can kill you.
2. Check with your team before shelling a tower or building they might be inside.
3. Move after a fire mission.
