Your first helicopter flightRange first · Full cabin · Plant the landing

Learn to fly for free in the firing range, the three axes and default binds, a clean takeoff, why you never fly empty, how to plant a landing, and when to fire flares.

  1. 01

Learn in the firing range, not in a match

The firing range has every vehicle, costs nothing, and resets instantly. A crash with passengers in a match costs $1,500 [BETA] for every player killed.

    1. From the main menu, enter the firing range.
    2. Talk to the NPC for a free MH-6 Little Bird.
    3. Fly circuits: hover, gentle left turns, gentle right turns.
    4. Crash on purpose to learn how close a rotor can get to a tree.
    5. After a crash, press Escape and choose return to the firing range.

You are ready for a match after three clean landings in a row. Step zero: the firing range

  2. 02

Know the three axes before you lift

The stick (cyclic) tilts the aircraft: pitch and roll. The collective is lift. Yaw points the nose. Roll and yaw are different, and mixing them up is the most common beginner crash. The game does not show your feet, so learn yaw by watching the nose. The three axes, in fixed-wing words

    Spool up, then lift gently

As soon as you sit down, bump the throttle and bring it back. The rotor spins up while passengers board, so you can lift the moment you choose. On flat ground raise the collective slowly. On a slope, wait for full RPM with the collective all the way down, then pull hard.

Fill every seat and fly to the hotzone

Never take off empty. Every passenger pays three times: the drop-off, a bonus if they survive, and a share of what they do next. In the beta a delivery paid $300 [BETA] in the hotzone, $150 [BETA] in the control zone and $75 [BETA] outside, so land in the hotzone. The payout chain

Carry a $100 [S1] parachute for yourself and spares for passengers; you pay a fine when a passenger jumps and breaks their legs. Passenger parachutes and the passenger list

Land in third person and plant it

    1. Fly the transit in first person for depth.
    2. About 10 seconds out, start bringing the collective down. Adjust again at 5 seconds.
    3. Press C for third person for the last part.
    4. The instant the first skid touches, pull the collective fully down to plant the aircraft.
    5. If the approach looks wrong, climb, go around and try again.

    Save your flares for smoke

You carry two flare charges and cannot fire them back to back. A lock tone alone is often bait: a good missile operator locks you so you waste the first set. Press V only when you see smoke or know where the launch came from. Flares, lock tones and the flare-baiting trick
